Discovering Prayer with the Church

by Fr John Pitchford

0–85191–056–4     448 pages     Hardback     £22

A prayer book for those who would like help with their daily prayers, but are not yet ready to use one of the ‘official’ prayer books of the Church. It is written for both Anglicans and Roman Catholics.

The Bishop of Ebbsfleet wrote in the Foreword:
Discovering Prayer with the Church” is not a replacement for the Official Books. It calls itself an ‘Ecumenical Prayer Book’ and draws on the resources of the Office Books. It is a bit like a small swimming pool, as compared with an Olympic standard pool. It is easy to access, and for some, it will be somewhere where they will be long content to find spiritual exercise and recreation. For others, it will be a very good place to start, before moving on to using the official forms of service of one or other of the traditions represented.

Roman Catholic Foreword by Fr Aidan Nichols, OP
Prior of the Dominican Priory of St Michael, Cambridge
:
I hope that his prayer book will be a small step toward the reunion of Anglicans with the See of Peter, and the acceptance by Roman Catholics of the tradition of holiness in the separated communities of the post-Reformation period.
